**If you run a local business and would like a feature about you, email editor@bristolhub.co.uk.**

Happy New Year to everyone in Bristol. We hope you had a great Christmas period and that you haven’t broken your resolutions yet.

Although the Bristol launched before Christmas, we have waited until the new year to start posting so as many people can see our posts as possible.

Bristol Hub’s main aim is to help promote local businesses transparently and for a reasonable cost. This week, we’re going to be writing a series of posts about local businesses who have taken the time to answer questions about themselves and how they got started.

Our first business feature is about a talented husband and wife team who design and handcraft bespoke furniture.

Jim and Jo Sharples run Jim Sharples Furniture  and have been designing and handcrafting fitted and freestanding furniture for the past 15 years. Give their Facebook page a like here, follow them on Instagram here and check out some of their great work below.

I recently asked them a few questions about their business and they kindly took the time to answer in detail. Here is what was said in their own words…

What made you want to start Jim Sharples Furniture?

Jim has always been into woodwork and design and he did the City and Guilds Furniture Making Course in Bristol and started making small pieces of solid wooden furniture from a friend’s garage.

We now have a large shared cabinet making workshop where we rent space to other makers just starting out in business.

What’s your favourite things about running the business?

We love designing and getting the plans just right and the best bit is finishing off as our clients are always thrilled with the work!

What’s your least favourite thing about running the business?

very cold days in the workshop are probably the least favourite days in there!

What does 2019 have in store for Jim Sharples Furniture?

We’ve just finished our website and we plan to get better at Instagram and Pinterest this year!

We’re making some very interesting projects too so we’re looking forward to showing them off when they are fitted.

Any advice to someone looking to go into the same kind of business?

Use our workshop! If anyone is starting out we offer affordable bench space with all woodworking machinery and a clean, modern and safe environment for makers just starting out. You don’t have to do it alone in a dark dusty garage like we did! (call 07786 848802 for more information).

Finally, what is your favourite thing about Bristol?

We love the Bristol Docks. Jo grow up in Southville and remembers walking through the docks everyday to get to school, it has changed a lot! a few years back Jim was commissioned to make 2 giant benches from the timber taken from the old North Junction Lock gates. We love going and having an ice cream with kids and sitting on our bench!

Thanks to both Jo and Jim for taking the time to answer our questions, and we hope our readers found some interesting advice in here.
